One possible approach is:

  • Involve your Faculty/Service HR Manager or Officer if you haven't already. 
  • Move to stage 2 of the capability process.
  • Involve the Head of Department/Service.
  • Hold a stage 2 capability hearing.
  • Clearly outline to her the issues with her work and what your expectations are.
  • Discuss with her the reasons for this poor performance.
  • Explain that her performance must improve as her work is essential for the business or you may have to go to the next stage of the formal procedure.
  • Issue a capability warning.
  • Discuss other options.

Unfortunately, the situation does not improve despite the fact that Edna is now on a final caution and at that stage you may look for the next step to be dismissal.
