Working time regulations
This document explains the maximum number of hours you are allowed to work each week under the Working Time Regulations. It shows what you can do if you want to work more than the maximum weekly hours.
- You can't be made to work more than 48 hours a week.
- If you want to work over 48 hours for one week, you can but your normal working hours over 17 weeks must be less than 48 hours a week.
- To see if your hours are less than 48 hours per week, add up the hours you work every week for 17 weeks, then divide those hours by 17. This gives you your average hours.
- If you want to work more than 48 hours a week more often, you need to fill in the opt out form and give it to your manager.
