Incremental dates

This policy explains when you will get an increment if you are on the University of Leeds salary scale.

  • This policy applies to staff appointed or promoted after 1 September 2007.  If you were appointed before this date your incremental date is likely to be 1 August (although there are some exceptions).
  • If the date of your appointment or promotion was 1st of the month, your salary will go up by one increment on the anniversary of this and every year after that until you reach the top of the scale.
  • If the date of your appointment or promotion was after 1st of the month, your salary will go up by one increment on the first of the month following the anniversary of this and every year after that until you reach the top of the scale.
  • If you’re on a contract of less than one year, you won’t normally be given an increment.
  • Discretionary increments are not automatic and are only awarded for an ongoing exceptional contribution.
