Employing researchers
This guidance outlines the University’s expectations for the support, management and development of researchers, and where responsibility lies for implementing these.
- Researchers are covered by University policies and procedures and should be treated consistently with other members of staff.
- Line managers and researchers should work together to ensure that probation and ongoing reviews are effectively managed and that researchers are supported in considering future career development.
- Researchers may apply for contribution pay and/or promotion or may be recommended by their manager using normal University procedures.
- When a researcher's funding and/or contract is due to end appropriate consultation will take place in line with the University's procedure for the 'Employment security for staff on fixed funding or fixed term contracts'. As part of this we will work with individual's to try to find appropriate redeployment.
